What Is Compulsory Earthquake Insurance (Dask)?

Compulsory Earthquake Insurance, which entered our lives after the 1999 Marmara Earthquake and is carried out by the Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK), is not a choice for homeowners, but a vital necessity. This insurance protects your home financially against earthquakes and disasters triggered by earthquakes.

In Which Situations Does DASK Come Into Action? DASK covers not only the damages caused by the shaking of the earthquake, but also the material damages caused to your building by situations such as fire, explosion, giant waves (tsunami) and landslide that may occur as a result of the earthquake.

  • Coverage Area: All structural elements that form the skeleton and integrity of the building, such as foundations, main walls, independent sections, stairs, roofs and chimneys, are covered.

What is Excluded? DASK focuses on the building itself. For this reason, situations such as your household belongings, debris removal costs, non-pecuniary damage claims or loss of profit are not covered by the policy.

Why Should You Get DASK?

  1. Legal Obligation: DASK policy is mandatory for title deed transactions, electricity and water subscriptions.

  2. Financial Assurance: In case you lose your home in a possible disaster, you will receive financial support with a state guarantee to help you hold on to life again.

  3. Economic Premiums: Since it is a non-profit system, premium payments are quite affordable.

Important Reminder: DASK policy is for 1 year. Don't forget to renew your policy every year for uninterrupted assurance.
